Carburetor: Fuel non-return valve

If you have problems starting your engine after a long pause, read this tip.

When the engine has been standing still for a long period of time:

1. The fuel in the carburetor evaporates which causes the needle valve (in the carburetor) to open.
2. The open needle valve, now allows the fuel (in the fuel lines & carburetor) to slowly flow backwards from the carburetor through the fuel pump and back to the fuel tank.
3. Next time you try starting the engine, it will take a lot of cranking before the fuel is pumped all the way back, refilling the carburetor.

To prevent the above:

• Place this non-return valve between the fuel pump and the carburetor. This prevents the fuel from flowing back to the fuel tank.
