When the exhaust pipes are stored (in factory), they always receive scratches and dents.

We highly recommend to paint all exhaust pipes to achieve a longer lifetime. Paint for Grill should be VERY good.

There are also ceramic coatings available (for example this Cerakote) which withstands temperatures up to 1100 °C and thermal shocks (when dropped directly into water) with no adverse effects.
