This unit is developed for:

  1. Reinforcement where the vibrations are strongest
  2. Stopping the oil-leaks from the Transfer Case

The new type is equipped with a new type of oil seal. The new oil seal is a universal type that allow rotations in both directions, hence it can be used in either the front or rear shaft of the transfer case.

Technical

The reinforcement is achieved by:

  • Adding one more bearing (SKF Explorer 6007-2RS1)
  • The extra bearing has moved further out, as close to the flange as possible
  • The old bearing is still there (so there are actually 2 bearings now !)

The oil-leaks are stopped in 3 effective ways:

  • A rubber o-ring in the big bracket
  • The oil seal has switched place with the bearing, and are not the first to fight the vibrations
  • The bearing has seals on both sides (a so called Closed bearing)

By moving the bearing as far out to the source of vibration as possible, causes less bending and stress in the axle.

It might not seem like a lot of changes, but even the slightest changes to the attachment point of a vibrating axle will make a large redistribution of the forces.

In place of the old oil seal (21x1-2x02052) you now have a bearing AND oil seal, where the design is upside down = The bearing and oil seal has switched places !

This special design is possible only by using a "closed" bearing.

The bearing used (SKF Explorer 6007-2RS1) in this unit, will only fit into this special designed unit, and cannot be used in the Transfer Case alone.

This bearing-unit will not remove the source of vibrations. It will change the forces and dampen the vibrations as well as the resonant frequencies (which is what you can feel and hear)

Installation

  • Remove the propeller shaft
  • Remove the flange (2101-22011001)
  • Remove the oil-seal (21x1-2x02052)
  • Carefully pry out the oil-deflector (2121-1802275)
  • Carefully pry out the bearing thrust support ring (2121-1802210)
  • Leave the old bearing in place !
  • Put back the big thin oil-deflector (2121-1802275)
  • Put in the new bearing unit ✔
  • Put back the propeller shaft

It should take about 30 minutes - no special tools are required.

Please note, that the old oil deflector is reused. The old bearing remains in place (so there are actually 2 bearings now !).

This compact designed unit (with a bearing + oil seal) only takes up the place for the old oil seal - a very smart design !
